Rio de Janeiro is one of the most beautiful cities in the world. The exuberant cultural capital of Brazil is set between the mountains and the sea and is endowed with a natural beauty. No wonder Rio is known as cidade maravilhosa (marvellous city). Rio's population is over 7 million cariocas - how the locals are called - characterized as fun-loving and easy going people, who love dancing, drinking, beach, sport and sun.

Beaches such as Copacabana and Ipanema, the statue of 'Cristo Redentor', the stadium of Maracana and the Sugar Loaf are well-known sights of this beautiful city, and of course, the first image that pops up in someone's mind, is always the Carnival celebration.

Rio is definitely a tale of two cities: The upper and middle classes reside in the South Zone and the lower class in the North Zone. Rio's famous beaches are in the South Zone.
